TIPS FOR HEALTHY AND GLOWING SKIN IN WINTER

Winter weather is not good for skin. Cold weather and low humidity levels result in dry air which leads to chapped skin, redness, itching, cracking. Without skin care winter wind makes the problem worse. Due to cold, we do hot showers or baths which further robs the moisture in the skin. So, additional moisture is important to keep glowing skin healthy and glowing.

SOME OF THE TIPS TO MAINTAIN A HEALTHY GLOWING SKIN:

KEEP THE SKIN MOISTURED:

        During winter, the outer layer of skin becomes very dry therefore it is important to keep the skin moisturized. Even those who have oily skin must use light moisturizing lotions after cleansing to keep the skin soft. Your skin not only needs more moisture but moisture right after you wash. Applying moisture to damp skin helps seal that dampness into the skin.

CHOOSING RIGHT MOISTURIZERS:

        Some of the moisturizers contain petroleum that can actually further dry your skin in the winter months. So be sure to choose a smart and right formula that has natural nourishing ingredients. Go for oil based rather than a water based solution, as it’s more likely to help your skin retain moisture in the winter. Try moisturizers with some hydrating ingredients like honey, avocado, yogurt, olive, almond, lavender, chamomile, jojoba and more which help soothe dry, itchy skin. Homemade hydrating masks can provide needed moisture in the winter months. 

WASH IN LUKE WARM WATER:

        Hot showers and baths always feel good in the winter, but when you can, particularly when just washing your face or hands, choose lukewarm water to avoid stripping as many oils away from the skin.

USE A SUNSCREEN:

        People like to enjoy the sun during winter but little do they know that exposure to the sun can hasten ageing. Therefore, one must use sunscreen 15minutes before going out in order to allow the skin to absorb it. If you stay out in the sun for more than 30 minutes, reapply the sunscreen.

HYDRATE YOURSELF WITH  DRINKS:

        We tend to drink less water in the winter because we turn to hot drinks like coffee and tea, but don’t forget that your skin needs hydration from inside out. A little warm water with lemon can be very refreshing and hydrating at the same time.

HYDRATE FROM THE INSIDE OUT:

        Eating foods high in water content can help hydrate your skin from the inside out. Try watermelon, apples, oranges, kiwi, and watery veggies like tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots. Make sure you are getting enough vitamin C and zinc to support the healthy production of collagen and elastin.

EXFOLIATE:

        Removing dead cells from the skin is also important in the winter, Particularly on our hands. Moisture can’t get in with the dead skin on the layer. Exfoliate your face and your hands gently then follow immediately with moisture to truly see a smoother difference.

OVERNIGHT MOISTURIZE:

        Dryer areas like hands, feet, elbows, and knees have thin skin and tend to lose moisture faster than other areas on the body. Choose some deep moisturizers at night then wear cotton gloves and socks to seal in the moisture until morning.

FOR CRACKED HEELS:

        Soak your feet in warm water at night for 15min. Scrub with a pumice stone. Apply body lotions or crack creams(in case of hard or cracked heels) and wear a sock whole night for soft feet.

 

HAIR CARE:

       Heat pure coconut oil and apply on scalp and hair tips. Wrap a hot towel and let it stay for some time. Next morning, wash your hair with mild shampoo.

SOME HOME REMEDIES FOR GLOWING SKIN IN WINTER:

  • Honey and egg white pack will also add moisture to the skin. Take an egg white and add some honey to it. Make a paste and put it on the face. Wash it off after some time.
  • Massage the face with curd. Curd is also said to be good for the dry skin in winters. Do it once in fifteen days to get radiant skin.
  • Mix some honey with lemon juice. Put this paste on the face, legs, hands, neck etc. allow it to stay fro about 15 minutes. Then wash it off with cold water. This will make the skin glow in winter.
  • Cucumbers work wonders for the skin. Extract some juice from the cucumbers and rub the juice on the face. Leave it on for some time and then rinse it off. It is a great natural remedy for glowing skin. It will also reduce dark circles under the eyes.
  • Take some moisturizer and put it on the ice cube. Massage the face with this ice cube for about 5minutes. This is a great home remedy for glowing skin.
